Security system keypad — an access identifier that works as part of a security system and is used to configure and control it.
Before we started on the enclosures for the security system keypad and the fire detector (another project we developed for Tiras), we set the main task: a modern, simple and easily recognisable design. When we began, competitors' devices were clearly ahead of Tiras in appearance. We had to create a new look while using well-proven mechanics.
The devices had to fit harmoniously into any interior. Their forms had to be simple and clear, without drawing too much attention.
The goal we set before starting: an interesting shape made from fairly inexpensive elements, without the device looking old-fashioned.
The chosen design has two features. A large, smooth black area visually makes the screen look bigger than it is. And the housing resembles the logo, which helps recognition.
During development the industrial designer faced a difficulty with the curved-display effect. It was easy to draw but hard to make, even though it was only a fake overlay imitating a curved display. It took a long time to find the methods and materials that would produce exactly this effect.
